Midnight's children and Satanic verses

This is Saleem Sinai's story, who was born in Bombay at about the midnight of 15th August, 1947, just at the same moment when India is getting her independence. Saleem's destiny is linked to the destiny of India, and his personal achievements will show the politic evolution of India or the politic evolution will show his acievements.                     It's a gifted man's story but it´s a generation and family's story , as well ; which turn this story into a whole portrayal of a generation and culture.

This is Gibrel Farishta and Saladin Chamcha's story. Gibrel is a legendary actor in Bollywood, and Saladin is an autodidact and an anglophil. The story starts when they where travelling and their plane explodes, making them fall into the sea. They achieve to arrive to a beach, and they note that their bodies are changing. One of them acquires an aureole, and the other sees with horror how it starts to grow hair in his legs, their feets turn into a helmets...

After that, they realize that they've been chosen to embody the fight between the good and the evil.

Salman Rushdie's biography

Salman Rushdie was born in Mombay, June 1947. He is a Britanic writer and essayist.

His father was a businessman who had studied in Cambridge. His mother was a teacher.

At his home, English and Urdu were spoken.

At the age of 14, Rushdie was sent to United Kindom by his parents where he studied in Rugby School, one of the best boarding schools in the U.K.

Later, he studied in the King's College , university of Cambridge , where he studied history.

In 2004, he got married ( for the fourth time ) with the Indian model and actress Padma Lakshmi, but the got divorced in 2007.

He is a member of the PEN center form United States.

In 1975, he wrote his first play , GRIMUS , but it didn't succed.

In 1980 , he wrote his second play ,  MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN. That is considered one of the most important English plays in the  XX century. This play made him win the Booker award, in 1981.

In 1993, he won the Booker of Bookers award, which is an award given to a person between all of the winners of the Booker award.
His most important and known novel is THE SATANIC VERSES.

This novel consists of a frame narrative, using elements of magical realism. The novel narrates the story of two Indian actors. The most important topic is the religion.

This book was very controversial. In some musulman

countries it was forbidden and some books were burned. In England and the USA it brought a lot of unrests.

An Iranian religious foundation gave a prize for his death. Everybody related with him or his book would be executed. Nowadays , this foundation is still giving that prize.

In 2007 Queen Elisabeth II of England gave him the tittle of Sir.

Bombay is located in the west of India, in the Arabian coast. It's the capital of Maharashtra.

Bombay is the most populated city of India, and the second all over the world. There you can find a lot of wealth, but there is a lot of poverty too, so there is a big contrast. It has got the biggest film industry in the world.
