Salman Rushdie was born in Mombay, June 1947. He is a Britanic writer and essayist.
His father was a businessman who had studied in Cambridge. His mother was a teacher.
At his home, English and Urdu were spoken.
At the age of 14, Rushdie was sent to United Kindom by his parents where he studied in Rugby School, one of the best boarding schools in the U.K.
Later, he studied in the King's College , university of Cambridge , where he studied history.
In 2004, he got married ( for the fourth time ) with the Indian model and actress Padma Lakshmi, but the got divorced in 2007.
He is a member of the PEN center form United States.
In 1975, he wrote his first play , GRIMUS , but it didn't succed.
In 1980 , he wrote his second play , MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN. That is considered one of the most important English plays in the XX century. This play made him win the Booker award, in 1981.
In 1993, he won the Booker of Bookers award, which is an award given to a person between all of the winners of the Booker award.His most important and known novel is THE SATANIC VERSES.
This novel consists of a frame narrative, using elements of magical realism. The novel narrates the story of two Indian actors. The most important topic is the religion. countries it was forbidden and some books were burned. In England and the USA it brought a lot of unrests.
An Iranian religious foundation gave a prize for his death. Everybody related with him or his book would be executed. Nowadays , this foundation is still giving that prize.
